A Few Shots From the Weekend

I have woefully neglected my blog of late. It's not that I don't take pictures. It's more that I just don't get them edited and posted anywhere. So, I thought I would post a few from the weekend.

I never find the time to get to the North Georgia Mountains to take fall pictures. Every year I say I'm going to do it and I never do. This year was no different. However, last weekend we were in Elijay doing a Feed the Children food distribution and between handing out food and photographing the event, I managed to squeeze off a couple fall shots. Many of the leaves had already fallen, but the colors of what was there were very vivid. I think these are the best of what I managed to sneak in.

My photos were not awarded any prizes, but I feel like a winner just having my pictures in the show. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. The show will continue through November 11. If you are in the area, go by and view the great photographs on display. Admission is free.

Photography Show Update

The Through the Lens show this past weekend was first class. One of the best ever in this area.
..so I am told.

I was not fortunate enough to win anything, but was still very honored to have my two pictures in the gallery for the weekend. The winners were very derserving and were fantastic photographs.

Overall it was a great experience for me. It also allowed me to use my mat cutting and frame making skills.

The next show is the Motionality showe in Dawsonville. I deliver my two pictures next week for that event. The show starts around the middle of October and runs through sometime in November. I will post more details as I have them just in case anyone wants to attend.

Photography for Feed the Children

This past weekend I attended the 2nd Annual Southeast StarBQ in Lumberton, NC. This is an even held annually by Star Touring and Riding. As a member of this motorcylce riding group, I participate in several events through out the year. I am the vice president of the Atlanta chapter.

This year for the StarBQ I was asked if I would be willing ot come and take bike photos. We agreed on $10 per picture with monies going ot the primary charity of STAR which is Feed the Children.

For the event I decided to try a green screen with several backgrounds. This was something I had never done before, but figured I would give it a try.

To make a long story short, it was a great success. I went hoping to do maybe 20 pictures and contribute the entire $300 to the charity. I underestimated. By days end I had printed 40 picture and at the end of the day was able to donate the proceeds of the day in the form of a check for $400 to the local STAR chapter and Feed the Children.

It was great. I had fun doing the event. I suceeded beyond my wildest dreams and helped a charity I really believe in.

In the next couple of days I will post a few of the pictures I took, just to show a sample of what I did.

Motionality Photo Contest

Well I just found out that two out of three of my submissions for the Motionality Photo show have been juried into the show. I am actually quite suprised. I was hoping for one.

The two selected were Night Rider and Carousel Ride.

The show will be in Dawsonville, GA sometime in October. I'll post dates and times once I know them so that anyone local can attend if so desired

Photo Show #1

Received word today that two of my photos were juried in to the "Through the Lens" photography show in September.

There were 173 photos submitted by 45 photographers. Of those 173 submissions 73 were juried into the show. That is 42% acceptance. I had two of four accepted which is 50%, so I am very happy.

The two accepted were the sunflowers (Selling Sunshine) and the deer (Cades Cove Deer).

Judging will be Sepetember 22 with winners announced on September 23, I will not be here for the show and I guess will not know if I won anything until I return the following Monday.

Another Photography Show

I have entered some more phtotos in a local photography show. This one, like the previous one is a juried show. We were allowed to submit three pictures. They will announce next week which pictures will be selected for exhibition.

The theme of this show is "Motionality".  The idea is convey motion in a still photography. This is a big departure from my usual landscape/nature/flower photography. Guess we will see how I do.

Below are my three entries. I have my fingers crossed

Local Photography Show

From these six pictures I need to select 4 to submit to a local photography contest. It is a juried contest, so after I pick four and submit them, then someone will review my submissions and decide if they will be accepted for the photography show. If any are selected I then have to fram and mat the ones selected. They will be on dispaly in September locally. There are ribbons, cash and a little prestige for the winners.

The theme is "Visions of the Southern Appalachians"

Let me know what you like.

Day Two

This was taken with my cell phone, so it's not the highest quailty but it's what I had available. This is the Capitol buildiing in Springfield, IL. We were walking back to the hotel after having dinner. The structure I'd magnificenh. Much bigger and grander than Georgia's.

I will come back and edit this later and add more about the first two days of the trip

My Other "hobby"

Been pretty busy with work (my real job .... the one that pays the bills) and haven't had much opportunity to do any photography lately. My intent has been to also post some of my older work here. Somehow I got off track with that and hope to get back ontrack very soon.

In the meantime, I do make ink pens. I do it as a hobby, but also as a budding business. A big part of marketing the pens is being able to take pictures of them. So, I though I would post a fe picture of some pens.

I have found that a white background works best for most pens. It keeps the emphasis on the pen. I have played around with some other backgrounds though.

Memorial Day

These are a few pictures from the Andersonville National Cemetery. These were taken on May 30th at the annual ceremonies there to honor those who have given all for our country. Each year the Boy Scouts place flags on each of the over 18,000 graves that are there. The first three shots are simply quiet reflections of the price paid. The last photo while maybe not significant photographically is of the utmost significance in every other way. This is a picture of the vets in our motorcycle group. They were blessed with life and I am forever grateful to each and every one of them.

Memorial Day Weekend

Summer is here and it is Memorial Day Weekend. I will be participating in Star Chapter 111's 8th Annual Andersonville Memorial Day Weekend Event. Hopefully when the weekend is over I will have some good photos to share/ The trip to the Andersonville National Cemetery and POW museum will offer plenty of photo opportunites.

Please remember what Memorial Day is about. It is a day set aside to honor those who have paid the ultimate price to protect our freedom and way of life. So while you are cooking your burgers and hot dogs, or whatever you do on this coming long weekend. Take a moment and remember all those who have died in service to our country. From the American Revolution soldier who fought for out independence to the soldier most recently killed in the Middle East defending freedom...remember them all.

Have a great weekend and look for pictures after the holiday.

Outer Banks 2010

Last October we did a week in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. What a great trip that was. We enjoyed a fantastic weekend with good friends in a great location. Of course I took pictures. A lot of pictures. There is plenty there to photograph. Everything from seashore to animals to lighthouses and more. I think you could easily spend months there doing nothing but taking pictures. This is just a few of several differnt things that I shot. Over the next few days I will add some more of the pictures I took there.

Road Trip 5/21/11

Yesterday we made a trip to south/central Georgia to finalize some details on our upcoming Memorial Day motorcycle event. As always I had my camera along. The area is heavy in peach and pecan orchards. This would be a great area to spend a day shooting orchards, farmland, old building and a lot more. Maybe one weekend I will go back and do just that. For now these are a few shots taked at a peach packing plant.

My Granddaughter

I'm not one to take many "people pictures". Of course I take pictures at family events and such, but I just don't think of myselft as a very good photographer of people. However, every now and then you just get luck and get a good shot. My granddaughter was dressed so cute  and the lighting was just right and it came out pretty good.

This was taken back in September so the picture is about nine months old and my granddaughter is nine months older.

DeSoto Fall

A quick picture taken late in 2010 at Desoto Falls in NE Alabama. I like the picture because of the warm colors and the feeling of fall that it conveys.

First Picture Post

Everywhere I go I try to take a camera. That is especially true when I am doing a motorcycle ride. I can't shoot while driving but when we stop I sometimes get some nice pictures. These aren't that great but I wanted to get something posted and this is what I found really quick.

Both of these were on a ride across the Cherohala Parkway that goes from Tennnessee to North Carolina, a ride we do almost every year in the fall. Nothing beats a ride accross the mountains of northern Georgia, Tennesse and North Carolina on a beautiful fall day. The trees are dressed in their finest colors. The air is cool and fresh as it kisses your face. The sun warms the skin and your eyes are just overcome with color and the vastness of it all.

G1 Photography

This site was set up as a venue for my photography to be shared. I have taken photographs since I was a child. It is something that has intrigued me for over 45 years now. It is one of the few things I have never lost interest in.

I really enjoy nature photography, whether it is a grandiose panarama of the Rocky Mountains, or a closeup of the tiniest creature. I love to capture and display God's creations. Everywhere we look we see His handiwork.

I also enjoy photographing some manmade objects as well. I enjoy taking photos of architecture, motor vehicles and still life. Additionally, I use my photography skills to display and market my hand crafted ink pens.

I hope to post new stuff here on a regular basis. No telling what you will see here so keep checking back for new pictures.
